Hello World!

After years of there being no decent bookshops in Brisbane - a branch of one major chain told a friend of mine the Lewis & Short Latin dictionary did not exist - we now have two large stores opening.

By decent bookshops, I don't mean the ones that happen to stock all the latest paperbacks, I'm talking about the bookstores you can spend hours browsing in, like Waterstone's and Blackwell's in England. An article in the paper informed me that these two are up to the task - one even has a coffee shop, so it earns extra brownie points - so I'll be off to investigate them this week. Expect a full report in a few days.

Trek Two Years Ago

These were some of the major news items on October 21, 2000:

  • Partick Stewart Interview
Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard) spoke to SFX Magazine about his first meeting with William Shatner (William Shatner).

"There was a certain friction, and gossips spread rumours of Bill's resentment. There were unfortunate incidents but by chance we found ourselves the only passengers on Paramount's Gulf Stream jet flying from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. During that 70-minute flight we got to know one another and I was absolutely charmed and delighted to discover what a smart, ironic and realistic individual he is."

  • Galaxy Ball Report
Robert Beltran's (Chakotay) Galaxy Ball, held to raise funds for the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles, was a huge success. A tour of the Voyager set and autographed shirts worn by celebrity guests alone raised $18,000.

  • Voyager Actor Video Clips
StarTrek.com posted four new video interviews featuring Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn Janeway), Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres), Tim Russ (Tuvok) and Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine). This article also marked the start of my long and illustrious career transcribing actor interviews for TrekToday;).
