Hello World!

In light of how long everything took to transform to the new news system back in January, I probably shouldn't be telling this, but I've continued working again today on copying the SlipstreamWeb news system to the Trek Nation here. As you may have noticed, currently TrekToday and the Trek Nation run from different news databases, causing the annoying situation that in a case of a new Trek Nation feature you can't click through directly from the main headlines, but instead first need to go to a news item about that feature. With the new system, we'll be integrating both news databases into one, so that that problem will be solved. Of course, the separate category pages on the Trek Nation (such as 'articles' or 'interviews') will still be displaying only the features from that category, but at least here on TrekToday they will all fit in the same set of headlines. As a result, we'll also be able to free up the left column currently storing Trek Nation headlines, and use it to link to the most recent BBS discussions. We'll keep you informed on how things are progressing, of course.

Trek BBS Today

Below are some of the topics currently being discussed at the Trek BBS:

Corrections

Russ Haslage at the Excelsior Campaign sends along the following correction to yesterday's news item about their trailer, and the letters some people have received from Paramount Pictures:

I just saw your report and wanted to explain something. It isn't that Paramount is officially considering the idea of EXCELSIOR. What seems to be the case is that they are learning things from the campaign about what some fans want and have promised to give us some of those things. Officially, they have not said they will give us EXCELSIOR. They have promised to give us a show with a Roddenberry philosophy and feel, and in one e-mail said that the person who asked for an Asian lead would like what they will see.

Poll Results

Below are the results of the most recent TrekToday poll:

If all programs aired in the same timeslot, which would you watch?
Star Trek: Voyager 71.8% - (695 Votes)
Andromeda 9.1% - (88 Votes)
The West Wing 8% - (78 Votes)
The Olympics 5.1% - (50 Votes)
Survivor 4.7% - (46 Votes)
Big Brother 1% - (10 Votes)

Total Votes: 967

Well, the above results can of course hardly be called suprising on a Star Trek site. Hopefully there'll be a bit more varied results with the new poll, asking which Star Trek magazine you prefer. Meanwhile, if you have any poll suggestions, please send them into news@trektoday.com - we're running out of inspiration a bit.

Are you happy about the victory of Blu-ray over HD DVD?
Yes!
No!
I don't care either way.
I'm just glad that the
