July 21, 2004 - 4:38 PMHello World! I'm at the midway point in Patrick O'Brian's 20-volume seafaring epic, the first (and best-known) of which is Master and Commander. I've been reading them as slowly as possible, because I'm enjoying them so immensely, and once I've finished, there won't be any more -- O'Brian is no longer living, though his publisher has plans to bring out his unfinished 21st book in the saga this fall. An unfinished manuscript, though a wonderful find, just isn't the same thing, though.
So I've decided that I will have to tide myself over, so to speak, with Horatio Hornblower. I had gotten the eight DVDs of the most recent production, broadcast in the US on A&E, as a Mother's Day present, and I have the first book, though I doubt I'll open it before the fall as I have another ten O'Brian books to finish. After that, I don't know what I'll do -- the Cochrane biography? A book on Nelson? Suggestions?
