Montgomery Plans Film on Guitarist Grandfather

Anthony Montgomery has spent part of his hiatus from Star Trek: Enterprise in Indianapolis doing research for a documentary near to his heart: the story of his grandfather, John Leslie Montgomery, better known as guitarist Wes Montgomary.

The Indianapolis Star reported on the involvement of Montgomery, who plays Travis Mayweather on Enterprise, in a documentary on his "guitar-legend grandpa."

Wes Montgomery lived in Indianapolis until his premature death at the age of 45 on June 15, 1968. Anthony Montgomery grew up in the city as well, but currently lives on the west coast where his acting career is centered. For three weeks this summer, the younger Montgomery spent time interviewing musicians and others who had known his grandfather.

Anthony Montgomery serves as executive producer for the as-yet-unnamed documentary, which he is working on along with another Indianapolis resident, award-winning filmmaker Jerald Harkness of Visionary Productions. The producers are asking that anyone with memorabilia or personal recollections of Wes Montgomery call (317) 575-5908.
