Shatner To Cover 'Cars'

NME is reporting that William Shatner (James T. Kirk) is planning to record a cover version of 'Cars', a 1979 song by Gary Numan. Shatner will be recording the song in the style of his 1968 album 'The Transformed Man', presenting the song as if it was a work of Shakespeare. He plans to perform the song on US TV, and is even thinking of including it on an all-new album featuring his songs.

Numan himself is apparently rather happy with his song being covered by Shatner:

"That's f*cking my career done. In a nice way, I might as well quit now - that's the bollocks. I'm a right Star Trek fan - Captain Kirk doing one of your songs - what could be a better accolade than that? That's brilliant."

A bit more on the song, which is also being covered by dance artist Armand van Helden, can be found here.
