Jude Law & Craig T. Nelson Up For Trek X?

New rumours suggested today that Paramount may be planning to hire two well-known actors for the roles of Shinzon and the Reman Viceroy in 'Star Trek X: Nemesis.'

According to an anonymous source quoted on Corona Coming Attractions, 'A.I.' actor Jude Law is up for the role of Shinzon, leader of the Reman people and a clone of Picard. Craig T. Nelson, currently one of the leads on the CBS series The District, was said to be up for the role of the Viceroy, Shinzon's eldery lieutenant.

It is uncertain whether these actors are the only candidates for these two roles. TrekToday's own sources have confirmed that casting discussions have indeed started, but as of last week these were still in a very early stage. Interestingly, Law was indeed one of the actors who was being discussed favourably, but it would seem unlikely that he would have turned into the only contender for the role so soon.

Even if both Law and Nelson are being seriously considered for the roles, there may be some problems regarding their availability. Corona noted that Law recently said he'd be playing a villain in an upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger film, speculated to be 'True Lies 2,' which will apparently be shooting around the same time as Trek X. Nelson will be shooting the second season of The District for the next few months, and as one of the series's leads he may not be able to also assume a large role in 'Nemesis.'

Corona's anonymous source also cleared up an old rumour concerning Sean Connery's involvement with the film. Before the character was revealed, Connery was briefly rumoured to be considered for the role of Shinzon, which due to the character's young age would of course have been impossible. Instead, the producers were apparently thinking of Connery making a small appearance as the leader of the Romulan Senate in the film's opening sequence.

As usual, please be aware that Paramount has released no official character or casting info for Trek X yet, and until then any such information from unofficial sources should be treated as you would any rumour.
