James Doohan (Montgomery Scott) is recovering in hospital after suffering from a bout of pneumonia.

The Original Series actor was taken to hospital in Seattle around three weeks ago, according to his agent at the Zap2It web site. His condition is not life-threatening, but forced him to pull out of an upcoming convention appearance in Sacramento.

The actor is now recovering and is expected to be able to return home soon. "He has pneumonia," his agent told the Trekker Newsletter. "He is now getting ready to go into rehab for a week."

Doohan, who turns 82 years old next month, lives in Seattle with his wife and baby daughter, who was born in 2000. He shot to fame as the Scottish engineer of the USS Enterprise when the Original Series launched in 1966, and continued to play Mr Scott in movies through the 70's and 80's. He met his wife Wende 25 years ago when she asked him for an autographed photo.

We at TrekToday wish the actor all the best with his recovery. More reports about his illness can be found here at the Trekkker Newsletter, at Star Trek.com and Zap2It.
