Leonard McCoy will still be irascible, claims Karl Urban.

As reported at IESB.net, Karl Urban's version of Leonard McCoy will be true to the 1960s version.

"That character that is written in the script is very faithful to the character that was created back in '68," said Urban, "and everything that the wonderful DeForest Kelley did to imbue his character with that great compassion for humanity and that sense of irascibility. I think that the long time fans will be very happy with this film.

When asked if traditional McCoy lines would be heard, Urban said "Yeah yeah definitely. There's definitely going to be, I think...a lot to really satiate the long term fans and this film is just going to be so ballistically exciting I think it's going to draw a whole new audience in." Urban has been working on his accent with a dialect coach so that he would sound more like McCoy.

Urban also feels that fans will enjoy the new Enterprise. "Oh my God, wait 'til you see the Enterprise! It's amazing, I mean it's just you haven't seen a Star Trek movie like this," he said.

Like other actors working on the film, Urban discussed the super-tight security. "It is so hard to talk about this film," he said. "We have to go to the set wearing jackets to cover up our uniforms, we go in these Popemobiles that you can't see through. It's for a good reason."
