The premiere of Star Trek: Hidden Frontier's seventh and final season has been released, picking up the story of the USS Excelsior after a disastrous battle.

The 43rd episode of the original fan series, "Heavy Losses", is available at the Hidden Frontier web site. This installment features the return of the villain Siroc (Jim Davis) and "chronicles the allies' attempts to retake the disputed Tren'La System by force from the Tholians", according to a press release.

A volunteer production based in Los Angeles, Hidden Frontier will produce eight episodes this season, bringing its total to 50 over its seven years of production. The web site also features previous episodes as well as bloopers and extras.

Another fan film, Star Trek: New Voyages, has its first vignette available for download at its web site. "This 5 minute vignette introduces Sulu to the New Voyages family," explained producer James Cawley. "Scribe Erik Korngold came up with a great script to bring Mr. Sulu back to the helm."

Actor John Lim, who will play Sulu in the series, called the vignette "a fitting reintroduction of Sulu...it's a real character piece."

The original Sulu, George Takei, will make an appearance in New Voyages in an upcoming episode, "World Enough and Time."
