Television network CBS yesterday announced Colm Meaney (Miles O'Brien) has been cast in the new police series R.U.S./H.

Meaney will portray the captain of an elite Los Angeles secret police team, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The network has commissioned a pilot from two-time Academy Award nominee Paul Attanasio. If picked up, the series will premiere this fall, with Attanasio serving as executive producer with Katie Jacobs.

Attanasio previously executive produced the now-cancelled Gideon's Crossing. He also co-created Homicide: Life on the Street and wrote the films 'Quiz Show' and 'Donnie Brasco,' for which he received Oscar nominations.

Starting his Trek career with a small role in The Next Generation's 'Encounter at Farpoint,' Meaney went on to play transporter chief Miles O'Brien in over thirty episodes of the series before continuing the role on Deep Space Nine. The Irish actor has featured in films such as 'Con Air,' 'Under Siege' and 'The Snapper,' which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
