The world's largest corn maze, which opened for the season this weekend, allows visitors to walk through such attractions as the Enterprise and Spock's head.

999 Today has a photo of designer Tom Pearcy along with Jean-Luc Picard lookalike Giles Aston inside the maize maze, open daily in York in the UK.

"There are many events taking place around the world this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek," said Giles, who thinks the York maze is "a fantastic tribute to the series. I know that Star Trek fans everywhere like myself will be thrilled to see this."

Farmer Pearcy said that he, too, is a fan of Star Trek "and wanted to do my bit to help mark the 40th anniversary. It gave me the opportunity to use some instantly recognisable images in the design." GPS satellite technology was employed to design the maze, which covers more than 32 acres.

"You don't have to be interested in Star Trek to enjoy a great family day out at York Maze," added Pearcy. The GPS technology enabled maze paths to be cut with greater accuracy than in previous years.

In other British Star Trek news, the Evening Times reported that the winner of ITV's Pokerface, Sarah Lang, intends to use her winnings to attend a Star Trek convention in the US.
