The Nine, a new drama series about a hostage crisis starring John Billingsley (Phlox), has been picked up by ABC.

Billingsley wrote on his web site thatThe Nine, "featuring Yours Truly and his wife, Mrs. Truly", had been ordered by the network, though he did not know whether it would premiere in the fall or at mid-season (The Futon Critic reported that it would air Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. in the fall).

The former Enterprise actor's wife, Bonita Friedericy, has been cast on the series as well, along with Camille Guaty, Dana Davis, Jeffrey Pierce and several others. The pilot was directed by Alex Graves.

Billingsley wrote that he and Friedericy were attending the upfront presentations in New York, "essentially a two day cocktail party with the media and potential advertisers in which you try not to spill anything on yourself and ask your spouse to monitor your liquor intake for you." They had just returned from a trip to New Zealand and Australia when they heard the news.

The Futon Critic has details on the show including a brief plot summary, which describes the title as referring to the number of people caught in the hostage standoff during a bank robbery.
