"Geeks Of the World In Mourning", joked web site Cinema Blend upon publishing the news that Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) had announced her engagement to French chef Christopher Eme, her partner at Ortolan restaurant in Los Angeles.

KGET TV reported that Ryan had announced her engagement while promoting her upcoming series Shark at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California. Ryan explained, "He brought me home, covered my eyes and took me up to the bedroom. He had candles lit everywhere and champagne on ice. He had gotten this huge canvas and painted it with words that said in French 'And you come with me forever.'"

The pair will likely wed in France, she added, next summer in the Loire Valley, because "That's when the rugby World Cup is in Paris. You know I am in love when I'm planning a wedding around a sporting event!" Ortolan has received high ratings from L.A. restaurant critics.

A finalist in the 1990 Miss America pageant, 38-year-old Ryan was previously married to politician Jack Ryan, with whom she has a ten-year-old son. In addition to the role on Star Trek: Voyager that made her famous, she had lead roles in Boston Public and Dark Skies.

Shark, which also stars James Woods, debuts on CBS this fall. The New York Daily News quoted Ryan as saying that she expected no romantic involvement between her character and his, "because once they've gone to bed, that tension is gone...it's either a relationship, or it's just awkward."

"I don't know what's in the future for these characters," she admitted.
