'Live Long And Prosper' Set Visit

Chris Howell at the Great Link has put up a transcript of an article by Judy Sloane that first appeared in issue 260 of Starburst magazine. In the article, Sloane reports about a recent visit to the Voyager set she made, during the filming of 'Live Fast and Prosper'. During the visit, she talked to director LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), who gave a short summary of the episode plot, Ethan Phillips (Neelix), and 'Live Fast And Prosper's main guest star, Kaitlin Hopkins. In the episode, she plays a con artist impersonating Janeway, and here's what she had to say about this character, named Dala:

"I've created the character as someone rough around the edges, kind of petulant, kind of edgy. I do impersonate Captain Janeway to the best of Dala's ability, based on what she knows about her. So some of it is accurate and some of it's a little wrong, which I think is funny. My communicator's too big, the outfit is not quite the same, the wig is not quite right, so I'm impersonating her based on the fact that I've never met her I'm piecing together bits of information and data that I know about her, so it's an odd approximation of Captain Janeway."

Hopkins admits that she was relieved that the role didn't call for her to do an accurate impersonation of Kate Mulgrew. "I think doing impressions of anybody is dangerous, because then it becomes a caricature of someone. Dala has never met her, so I captured just enough of a sense of who Kate is that you get it without it being exact."

Just before the actress is called back to do her close ups, she adds with a twinkle in her eyes, "I sort of play Seven of Nine too. It will be the comic relief in the show when you see me in her catsuit, because I don't look anything like she does! It's not an exact fit!"
