Spain, not traditionally a "Trek county" is warming to Star Trek courtesy of J.J. Abrams.

As reported by TrekMovie.com, this week's preview at Cinecité in Madrid hosted by Abrams was positive, and the applause afterwards was "significant."

Spanish newspapers are covering Star Trek XI too, which may help the first national Spanish Star Trek club with recruitment. One newspaper, Diario ADN, declared that Trekkies would love the film and gave high marks for the effects. Star Trek XI is "'Star Trek' with 'Star Wars' flavor," it said.

Not only Spanish fans are excited by what they're seeing. With the online release of the new trailer for the film a few days away, fans are impatient to see it. While some hurried to see the new Bond film, Quantum of Solace, to which the trailer is attached in some cases, others, too impatient to await the Monday official online release, have gone the bootleg route, in spite of the lack of visual quality of a bootleg copy. "Just watched the shaky-cam version," said one fan. Another succumbed to the urge to see it now but said, "Not bad. I look forward to seeing it in better quality on Monday." As so often happens in these cases, the trailer was uploaded by those who saw it with the new Bond movie, to sites such as YouTube.

Meanwhile, fans who have seen it, either through legitimate sources or otherwise, are for the most part excited and eager to see the finished product in May. "This trailer and movie are certainly making me want to rewatch the other Trek movies again with renewed interest," said TrekBBS poster OphaClyde. "It looks really, really good," said another poster, Donald Draper. "Yes, it is Star Trek. Getting to the roots of the mythos. Not limited to off hand references of back stories in old episodes. But its very consistent to the broad strokes of Trek."
