An "Imperial Edition" of the internet film Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning will be released in December by Universal Pictures, with all new visual effects and extras.

A preview is available now at the Star Wreck web site, which has a release date of December 13th for the two-disc special edition. "If the DVD sales go as planned," said director Timo Vuorensola, "it will surely change the attitude of the major players in the film industry. The Internet cannot be turned on or off according to the wishes of the major production companies."

The original Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning remains available for free download online, and has been shown on several European television channels as well as at public screenings. Universal cited its four million internet downloads as a reason for releasing the DVD special edition.

Executive Producer Samuli Torssonen supervised the remastered special effects and all-new starship artwork. "It has been my dream to have completely distinctive Star Wreck ships," he said. "The fleet that Pirk, the intergalactic dictator, commands has to look dangerous: the ships are heavy, aggressive and carry overwhelming firepower."

The Imperial Edition is available now for pre-order at the Star Wreck online store. A trailer can be seen at the site as well.
