Trekkies 2 will be released on DVD on August 31st to coincide with the long-awaited box set of the first season of the original series.

StarTrek.com has published details on the planned arrival of this second documentary about Star Trek fans and fandom, the follow-up to the acclaimed Trekkies which is already available from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Director Roger Nygard and Star Trek: The Next Generation actress Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar), who produced the film with Mike Leahy, traveled around the world to Europe, Australia and South America to report on the activities and passions of Star Trek fans. All three will provide commentary on the DVD, along with composers JJ Holiday and Billy Sullivan.

In addition to covering European fans who attended the first-ever convention in Serbia and who redesigned their homes to reflect Star Trek themes, Trekkies 2 revisits some of the original "Trekkies", including Koerner and Whitewater juror Barbara Adams.

The DVD will also include 20 deleted scenes, two short films by Brian Dellis and Gabriel Koerner - both fans who are included in the documentary - Nygard's Six Days in Roswell trailer and a clip from his Suckers.
