For about 6 hours today, the TrekToday front page carried a news story that claimed producers had cast four actors in recurring roles on Enterprise. After receiving multiple reports to the contrary, this does not in fact seem to be the case.

According to the original report (a copy of which may still be found here), Star Trek's producers had selected actors Derek Annunciation, Andrea Beutner, Carol Brophy and Stacy Carter as members of Capain Jonathan Archer's crew. According to the original report, this casting process was still underway as late as mid-May, with producers still tweaking the final set of recurring characters for the show.

However, TrekWeb just posted an update to this news item, stating that "extremely reliable sources close to the production" told the site that the report was completely false. In addition, we have been contacted by the Carol Brophy of whom we posted a biography and photo, but who stated that she had "not been cast in anything Star Trek related."

With these two denials, we feel that at this time we should retract the story as originally posted, while also offering apologies to our readers.

We are not quite certain how this could have happened. The report passed all our usual fact-checking tests, and at the time of posting, we fully believed it to be true, as we always do when posting news stories. It is possible that the situation regarding recurring characters changed since mid-May, or that we became the victim of a Paramount effort to discover leaks, but whatever happened, the report as we posted it was apparently false. We should have done a more intense verification of the story, and again we can do nothing else but offer our apologies and hope you will still continue to trust TrekToday in the future.

If you would like to read the original report, please visit this link. And to repeat the usual disclaimer, please be aware that Paramount has made few official statements on Enterprise yet - as this unfortunate episode goes to show, until official confirmation appears on any piece of info, please treat any news from unofficial sources as you would any rumour.
