Hello World!

Today is an interesting first for me.

They told me this would happen sooner or later. They tried to warn me. But alas, I scoffed at their words, believing I was immune.

You see, I haven't really had time to get out and do a lot today apart from working on TrekToday here. Which means, that when I come to put pen to pa... er, you know what I mean, for something interesting to write in my Hello World, I'm stuck.

Possibilities to write about include:

  • TrekToday Merchandise.

The idea of coming up with some sort of TrekToday t-shirts or other merchandising seems to have been revived. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions on this? Drop us a note at feedback@trektoday.com if so. Please note that action figures of the TrekToday editors have already been suggested.

  • Chocolate.

Thanks to a very very kind friend indeed, I recently experienced the legendary American Hershey bar. And though my in-box may now face a torrent of critisism from around the world, I'm afraid to say that creamy delicious British Chocolate still wins out for me. Never will the divine Malteser be surpassed, in my own highly biased opinion. What an odd texture the Hershey bar has. Now Oreos -- mmmm! A very different story there! Though some assure me that the Oreo is indeed available in meerrie olde England, I've yet to encounter these delicious treats in my part of this desolate isle. I wouldn't say no to being able to replenish my Kool Aid supply either. But the nicest edible gift I received was a packet of Beef Jerky. It looked disgusting and smelt almost as bad, but good grief, it was lovely. Lis likes.

  • Blather On Until It Looks Like The Space Is Full

As per the advice of those who have gone before me. Who am I to question the wisdom of my elders?

Trek Two Years Ago

  • No News

Exactly two years ago today, Christian wrote the following in his "Hello World:"

There is an *incredibly* small amount of news today - I had to search for hours to come up with the little news you see here above, and some news items wouldn't even have made it to TrekToday on a normal day. It really makes me fear for hiatus - I wonder how much news there'll be then...

I'm quite sure that at the time, he didn't imagine that someone else would be ferreting through his archives two years later, desperately searching for something interesting to say in a new Site Columns feature. So Christian, when you read this, don't kill me. Its your own fault. You said yourself, there was no news two years ago. Unlike today of course, when there's plenty of news. Just look at all the exciting articles the dedicated staff have been busy writing for your reading pleasure. So erm... I'd better get back to it then....

More news can be found in our May 1999 Archives.
