Picardo Goes 'Looney'

Robert Picardo (the EMH) has reached the acme of his acting career in the upcoming feature film Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

The former Star Trek: Voyager star yesterday told the Sci-Fi Wire he will play an Acme Industries board member in the movie, which is part animation, part live-action. Picardo stars alongside comic Steve Martin, who portrays the chairman of the board.

"If you remember from the cartoon, Wile E. Coyote was always sending away to Acme for something to attack Road Runner with," Picardo said. "So I'm in a few scenes with Steve, who's in full wild-and-crazy-guy mode. He is hilarious."

Picardo is no stranger to acting with special effects, having played both the EMH and Dr. Lewis Zimmerman in the Emmy-nominated Voyager episode, "Life Line", so working alongside cartoon characters such as the Tasmanian Devil wasn't a problem. Given that the film was so heavy on special effects, Picardo said he assumed one scene which involved his character being wrapped up in plastic would also be animated.

"But no," he said. "They wrapped me head to toe in plastic wrap in about 30 seconds. It's a very funny scene. I was afraid of getting suffocated and killed, but apparently that didn't happen, because here I am talking now."

The complete interview, in which he also talked about working with director Joe Dante, is available at the Sci-Fi Wire.
