Hello World!

It’s the holiday season yet again. I am enjoying the calm before the storm, the storm being the avalanche of company that will descend upon my house next week. The children (and various others) are coming home for Christmas.

But before they come, there is much work to do. Things that were put off because I didn’t feel like doing them (like assembling an extra bed) suddenly become unavoidable. The house must be clean for the arrival, even though my children wouldn’t care if it wasn’t. The protocol handed down from my mother must stand. Company coming equals frenetic housecleaning before their arrival.

All of this is in addition to both the normal work of life and the extra work of decorating, baking and buying for the approaching holiday. It’s enough to send a Romulan fleeing back across the Neutral Zone at warp nine!

But, soon enough, all the work will be completed. The children will arrive, by airplane or by car and will settle in to their assigned rooms. The house will be filled with noise and good cheer, and the smell of baking Christmas cookies. The holiday will arrive, the clan will all gather and a good time will be had by all. Unfortunately, snow won’t be in the picture in this neck of the woods but that’s the only flaw in an otherwise great holiday.

It’s a busy time of the year for me, but I love it. And in this quiet time before my company arrives, I’m enjoying looking at the decorated Christmas tree, wrapping gifts, listening to carols and savoring the season. Because before I know it, it will be New Year’s and time to put it all away again until next year.

Here’s hoping whatever you celebrate, you derive great enjoyment from the break from the usual monotony of work and regular life.

Jolan Tru,
Bonz
