Hello World!

According to the latest poll, TrekToday has 15 visitors who are fluent Klingon speakers and 107 readers who can "get by on Quo'nos". The other 678 people who voted are just like me: totally clueless. I'd be interested to hear from any of the 15 who are fluent Klingon speakers — how long it took you to learn, whether you regularly converse with other Klingon speakers, etc. So, send me an email if this applies to you.

Trek Two Years Ago

These were some of the major news items on May 14, 2003:

  • Enterprise First Officer Gets Name Change
It was reported that Enterprise's lead female character had had her name changed from T'Pau to T'Pal to avoid confusion with the character of T'Pau from the original Trek. Her name was eventually changed to T'Pol, which stuck.

  • New 'Endgame' Scenes Revealed
The latest edition of TV Guide detailed several key scenes from the Star Trek: Voyager finale:

TV Guide was able to observe the filming of a scene that took place in the Briefing Room, in which and an older Admiral Janeway comes to Voyager from 26 years in the future to take the ship home. Her tactics will give the ship a ten second window of opportunity to get home in an attempt that could have tragic consequences if it ends in failure. Captain Janeway refuses to make the attempt unless all her senior staff agree to take the risk. They unanimously vote to take a chance.

  • Enterprise Reactions
Various members of the online fan community, as well as game designers and novelists, gave their thoughts on the premise of Enterprise.

Today's Television Listings

  • At 8:00pm (7:00pm Central), UPN will be showing Enterprise's "First Flight". Here's how the official site describes the episode:

"While Enterprise is investigating what appears to be a dark matter nebula, Archer receives news that A.G. Robinson, his old rival in the early days of the NX test program, has died. During a shuttlepod mission into the dark matter phenomenon, Archer reminisces to T'Pol about the time he and Robinson were pilots competing for the honor of being the first to break the Warp 2 barrier."

This will be followed at 9:00 p.m. by "Bounty":

"A Tellarite bounty hunter captures Archer intending to turn him over to the Klingons for a substantial reward. Meanwhile, T'Pol is infected with an alien pathogen that unleashes her primal Vulcan urges."
