Shatner - A Lesson Not Learned

An accident on his motorcycle a few years ago has not convinced William Shatner to don protective gear when riding.

As reported by Starpulse.com, Shatner is disdainful of wearing protective gear that might save his life while riding his motorcycle. "I think leather, and helmets and protective gear is foolish, in the hot California weather," said Shatner. "I ride with sandals and shorts and a t-shirt."

Shatner was involved in a motorcycle mishap a few years ago where his bike slid out from under him. Listen to his account of the accident in the video located here.

After that accident, bruised and bloody, with torn clothes, he resumed his trip, drawing surprised looks along the way. "People are driving up and college kids are yelling at me," Shatner recounted. "Finally they uttered the ultimate insult, 'Beam me up Scotty,' so I gave them the finger.
