Reprising his role of Jack Rice, Scott Bakula appeared recently on Boston Legal opposite Candice Bergen.

As reported at TV Guide, Bakula returned to Boston Legal, playing Shirley Schmidt's (Candice Bergen) former law school love interest.

Bakula and Bergen have played a romantic couple before. From 1993-1996, Bakula appeared on Murphy Brown opposite Bergen as a reporter who was a sometime romantic interest for her character, Murphy Brown.

When asked if the idea of the romantic pairing was to hark back to Peter and Murphy, Bakula said, "I was dying to know, but there were no writers, therefore no rewrites, so I don't know! It was oddly coincidental, since Jack [like Peter] plays piano and sings. I'm very curious. He's energy and zaniness, very high-powered, in everyone's face. The first time I meet Alan [James Spader] I tell him, 'Get me coffee.' Then, "Did you hear me?"

Working with Bergen was a good experience for Bakula, who praised Bergen. "She's so gracious, welcoming and generous and she's just the same as she was."

In other Boston Legal news, as reported at Zap2it, nine ABC shows have been picked up for the 2008-2009 season. The Emmy-winning Boston Legal was not on the list for renewal.
