The Star Trek franchise will contest four categories in this year's Saturn Awards.

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films yesterday announced the nominations for the 30th Annual Saturn Awards, Cinescape reported. Three of the franchise's four nods went to the only Trek series currently screening, Enterprise.

Enterprise was recognised in the category of Best Network Television Series, in which it will compete with five other series: Alias, Angel, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Smallville. This is the third successive year Enterprise has been nominated in this category, though it has yet to win.

Star Scott Bakula (Jonathan Archer) picked up a nod for Best Actor in a Television Series. His competetion consists of last year's winner David Boreanaz, from Angel, as well as Stargate SG-1's Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks, Michael Vartan (Alias) and Tom Welling (Smallville).

While Connor Trinneer (Charles 'Trip' Tucker) was passed over for Best Supporting Actor, a category he contested in 2003 and 2002, Jolene Blalock scored her third successive nomination for Best Supporting Actress. A past winner of this category in 2002, Blalock will face off with Angel's Amy Acker and Charisma Carpenter, Victoria Pratt (Mutant X), Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1) and Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff.

The franchise's fourth and final nomination came in the category of Best DVD Television Release, with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine nominated for all seven seasons. The competition includes Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Hercules, Steven Spielberg Presents Taken and Wiseguy. Star Trek: The Next Generation's DVD packages won this category last year.

In alumni news, Kristanna Loken (Malia in "Favourite Son") is up for Best Supporting Actress for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, while composer Jerry Goldsmith was recognised for his score for Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Carnivale, Dead Like Me and The Dead Zone, executive produced by alumni Ronald D. Moore, Bryan Fuller and Michael Piller, respectively, were also recognised by the Academy, as was Moore's Battlestar Galactica mini-series.

The winners of the 30th Annual Saturn Awards will be announced on May 5. The full list of nominations is available at Cinescape.
