Hello World!

As you'll undoubtedly have noticed, today was a pretty slow news day - half of the News Bullets were collected yesterday, and for the rest there's just Amy's review of 'The Genesis Wave, Book One'. Fortunately this did give me the chance to resume work on something I'd been putting off far too long - revising the news manager we use to put up updates at the site. When I started working on it, I knew almost nothing yet about perl programming, so this site manager is actually based around a message board script I found somewhere. As I learned more from that code and hacked away to change it (so far that I doubt there's even a line of the original code left), I just added on extra features as I went along, leaving an incredibly bloated and hard-to-read program.

Bringing it over to SlipstreamWeb back in July already was difficult, but now that both sites and their needs have started to divere a bit, the program has really become almost impossible to manage. After I've cleaned everything up, hopefully we'll be able to introduce some of the features we have on SSW now here on the Trek Nation as well - perhaps when Series V starts, we'll even be able to maintain an Episode Guide of some kind.
