Heroes star Zachary Quinto has never made a secret of his desire to play Spock in the upcoming Star Trek movie. Now rumours are everywhere that the man who plays villainous Sylar will take on the iconic Vulcan role in the movie, but there's not a shred of confirmation to be found.

"If the deal was officially closed, I'd run this as a story, but, to the best of my knowledge, they're still in negotiations," wrote Jeremy Smith of CHUD.com, commenting on director J.J. Abrams' veil of secrecy around many of his projects.

TrekMovie.com reported on Quinto's campaign to be the new Spock, which involved recruiting Heroes co-star Greg Grunberg - Abrams' best friend - to assist him. Now TrekMovie.com "has heard a few times that there have been some talks between Quinto and the film’s producers, but that no deal is done."

Of course, once those two sites chimed in, the news spread everywhere. "Spock Casting Buzz!" touted IGN, while BuddyTV.com asked, "Zachary Quinto of 'Heroes' the Logical Choice for Spock?" Cinematical and TrekWeb have run with the story too.

MSNBC reported a month ago that Quinto would return for a second season of Heroes, which could presumably put a crimp in his filming availability. Quinto previously had a steady gig on 24 (Day Three) and has appeared on many TV shows, including CSI and Crossing Jordan.

Adrien Brody's name was in circulation for quite a while as a possibility to play Spock, but recently the producers have spoken of casting lesser-known actors in the lead roles. No tentative or final casting choices have ever been confirmed by the studio.
