By Michelle February 12, 2004 - 8:36 PMSee Also: 'Harbinger' Episode Guide After running previews that put T'Pol's skin on display, Star Trek: Enterprise registered a slight increase in overnight ratings.
According to Mediaweek.com's Programming Insider, this week's Enterprise episode earned a 3.6 overnight rating/5 share. This means that approximately 3.6% of American households were tuned to UPN, while "Harbinger" was viewed by 5% of households watching television at the time. Last week's "Stratagem" brought in a 3.4/5 overnight.
Programming Insider Marc Berman left Enterprise in the loser's column, as the WB's Smallville also saw a slight increase in ratings, from a 5.2/7 last week to a 5.4/8 this week. Though the ratings for FOX's American Idol were not as overpowering as last week's, the more balanced numbers helped NBC and CBS more than they helped the smaller networks.
"Harbinger" had the highest overnight rating of 2004. Zap2it reported a slight increase in its fast national rating as well: the episode brought in a 2.5, improving on the 2.4 earned last week by "Stratagem."
However, the numbers remain down from the 4.2/6 overnight rating earned by "Stigma" last year.
Ironically, while previews featuring Jolene Blalock's naked backside may have sparked veiwer interest in "Harbinger", the scene was cut more discreetly than the preview aired for the episode last Wednesday on UPN.
CBS, which is under the same ownership as UPN, is being investigated for airing excessive nudity during the Superbowl halftime show, which may have prompted a change in the Enterprise episode in the US. Viewers in Canada reported seeing a full view of T'Pol's posterior.
