If you needed a proven leader to command a team of paintballers, you wouldn't need to look much further than James T. Kirk - or rather, his real life alter ego William Shatner.

Shatner has signed up to lead one of three teams involved in a celebrity paintball match to be held at Challenge Park Xtreme on August 31 next year. The scenario will involve the various teams trying to gain control of mythical items such as Excalibur and Thor's Hammer.

Organised by SPPLAT, the Society of Paintball Players and Teams, the event will benefit Ahead With Horses. The charity gives physically challenged children a chance to ride a horse, helping to boost their confidence.

The event is planned with a Star Trek theme in mind. Costume and look-a-like contests as well as a special dealer's area are some of the attractions currently being considered.

For those wishing to participate in the match there is a $150 entrance fee. Details on how to sign up can be found here at SPPLAT. Information about Challenge Park Xtreme is available at the park's web site.
