Paramount Production Halted After U.S. Attacks

Along with other major entertainment studios, Paramount Pictures today temporarily suspended filming on all of its productions, including Enterprise, following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Reuters reported that two hijacked passenger planes slammed into the World Trade Center this morning, followed only minutes later by another airplane crash that hit the Pentagon, nerve centre of the US military. The disaster grew even worse when only an hour later first one and then the second of the two major WTC towers collapsed, trapping thousands of victims under the rubble.

The United States and the world are in a state of shock as rescuers are still evacuating persons from the disaster areas and citizens living in the area are being called upon to help out in the relief effort. American President Bush said he has "taken all appropriate security precautions to protect the American people" and promised that his country would "hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts."

As the United States are dealing with this disaster, much of the entertainment industry has chosen to temporarily suspend most of its activities. According to a Reuters report, award shows such as the Latin Grammy Awards and the Emmy Awards were postponed indefinitely, and many major studios closed their doors for the day. We have learned that as a precautionary measure, Paramount Pictures also shut down filming for the day, with production expected to resume until tomorrow.

Today's attack on the United States has been described by many as a second Pearl Harbour, and indeed it is grieved about in the entire world as a deeply saddening attack that cost the lives of thousands of innocent people. We here can only express our sorrow over this and extend our condolences to those readers who were involved with the disaster, and hope that the aftermath of these attacks will be different than the horrendous events that followed after the Pearl Harbour attack.
