July 11, 2002 - 4:55 PM
TrekToday will soon interview W. Vito Montone, executive producer of the first 3D Virtual Star Trek convention, and we're offering you the chance to ask questions.
Taking place from the 2nd to the 4th of August, 2002, Vir-Con 2002 intends to give fans who aren't able to go to a real-life convention the same experience as those who are. The Vir-Con will allow fans who sign up to create 3D avatars to navigate through a virtual convention floor. In addition, fans will be able to see streaming video of Trek celebrities like Leonard Nimoy (Spock) or Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn Janeway), who will be appearing at the real-life Creation convention in Las Vegas at the same time.
(Vir-Con is a sponsor of the Trek Nation.)
W. Vito Montone, executive producer of the Virtual Convention, has agreed to answer questions from TrekToday readers about both the actual Trek virtual convention and the fact this will be the first-ever online convention. To submit your questions, please use the below form:
A selection of the most interesting questions will be sent to Mr. Montone, and the responses will be posted on TrekToday soon.
Fans who want to find out more about the Virtual Convention can also go to the con's official web site, which will already be hosting several live chats prior to the start of the actual convention. From Friday onwards, the site will also be selling special Limited Edition Latinum Passes to the convention, which will not only allow fans access to the event but will also give them two free autographed photos.
