Voyager Variety Ad The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences began mailing out nominating ballots for the Emmy Awards last week. To conincide with this, Paramount unveiled a special Star Trek: Voyager section of its Emmy consideration site (story), but this week has begun promoting the show in earnest.

Animated adverts have begun appearing on Variety.com the site of the Hollywood trade paper. Offering helpful hints to academy members who may be "spaced out" on who to vote for, the adverts direct people to the Voyager sub-section of the Paramount 'For Your Consideration' site which opened last week. Variations of the Voyager ad have also been appearing in the print versions of the paper.

Voyager Variety Ad

Voyager has previously won four Emmy awards in the make-up, music and special effects categories of the awards. It has never had success in a dramatic category though. No Star Trek series has been nominated in the high-profile categories of the awards, like Outstanding Drama Series or Outstanding Actor. The exception was back in 1994, when a similar high-profile advertising campaign by Paramount succeeded in a Best drama nomination for the Next Generation.

Nominations for this year's Emmys will be announced on July 12th, while the high-profile awards ceremony will take place on September 16th. The ceremony will be broadcast live around the world, and will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. Please note that the adverts reproduced here remain copyright of Paramount Pictures.
