Alexander Siddig (Bashir) has joined the cast of Fox's hit series 24 for next season, where he will play one of the antagonists.

"Former Star Trek: Deep Space Nine doc Alexander Siddig is joining the cast as one of the evildoers behind the big Season 6 plot," wrote TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, who added that Eric Balfour would reprise his role from the series from its first season and become a regular.

The sixth season of 24 will debut on Fox television in January 2007. Each hour of television time represents an hour in a single day, with most of the storylines focusing on attempted terrorism and international intrigue. Several other Star Trek alumni have appeared on the series, most notably Penny Johnson Jerald (Kasidy Yates) as First Lady Sherry Palmer and Gregory Itzin (Dr. Dysek, Admiral Black) as President Charles Logan.

Siddig recently announced that it was highly unlikely he would appear at conventions in August, telling his web site that due to a role he could not discuss until the contracts were signed, he was likely to be busy filming. The actor does not believe his schedule will permit him to attend Memorabilia in Birmingham or the 40th Anniversary Convention in Las Vegas. Now we know what the role is.

Thanks to Sid City for the news.
