Nicholas Meyer and René Echevarria have signed on for new projects, one of which is a biography of George Washington, the other, a new science-fiction series.

As reported by Businesswire.com, Meyers (Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek: The Voyage Home, Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country,) will be writing a screenplay about the life of George Washington. "The myths created by Washington’s remarkable achievements are so ingrained in our thinking that people forget he was a man, an extraordinarily complicated man whose personal life was defined by powerful contradictions and passions," said Meyer. "I've studied the man for decades and look forward to telling the story of the real Washington."

Vulcan Productions founder Paul G. Allen has long wanted to present a historically accurate story of the first president. "Washington was the indispensable man, the physical embodiment of America's revolutionary ideals and identity," said Allen. "As we consider America's role in today's ever-changing world, understanding the man who had a pivotal role during the birth of our nation is essential."

Meanwhile, as reported by Variety, Echevarria (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will be an executive producer on The Return, a sci-fi series about the impact on the world, including the White House, when aliens land on Earth. The Return will air on ABC.
