These were some of the major news items on August 9, 1999:

  • Shatner Finds Wife Dead In Pool
    William Shatner's (James T. Kirk) wife, Nerine Kidd, was found dead in the swimming pool of their Los Angeles home. Although paramedics tried to revive her, they were unsuccessful.

  • 'Voyager: Elite Force' Interview
    Jake Simpson, one of the programmers behind the 'Voyager: Elite Force' computer game talked about breaking the curse of 'bad' Trek games. "I think the combination of all the great things in this game; the engine, models, scripting, effects, all of this coupled with the fact that it's based off Star Trek: Voyager will make this an incredibly fascinating game," he said.
