Michelle Forbes, best-known to Star Trek fans for her role as Ro Laren on Star Trek: The Next Generation, will be appearing in True Blood, HBO's new vampire series.

As reported by Variety, Forbes, most recently seen in another HBO series In Treatment, will be appearing in an unspecified role in True Blood.

True Blood, based on a series of books by author Charlaine Harris and produced by Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, is about the transformation of vampires from "legendary monsters" to "fellow citizens" overnight, due to the invention of synthetic blood by a Japanese scientist.

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a waitress in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, understands what it is to be an outcast due to her ability to "listen in" on people's thoughts. She is open-minded about the integration of vampires into society, unlike many fellow citizens who remain skeptical of the vampires.

According to producer Ball "It's very easy to see them [the vampires] as a metaphor for any disenfranchised, feared minority group struggling for acceptance. On the other hand, they can be seen as a shadowy organization really interested in amassing power and wealth."

True Blood airs on HBO on Sunday nights at 9 P.M. with repeat episodes appearing during the week on the pay channel. The series premiered last night.
