Compston Joins List of Scotty Contenders

Yet another name has been thrown out as a possibility to play Scotty in the upcoming eleventh Star Trek feature film.

Scotland's Daily Record has reported that Martin Compston, who starred in Monarch Of The Glen, has been called back to read for the role of Montgomery Scott, which has at various times been linked to actors Greg Hemphill and James McAvoy. The former is a star of Still Game while the latter has received largely positive reviews for The Last King of Scotland, Becoming Jane and Atonement.

A onetime football player, Compston starred in Sweet Sixteen after being discovered at 23 to play a tragic main character. He appears in Doomsday, filmed earlier this year in Glasgow.

A friend of Compston's was quoted as saying, "Martin has had a couple of callbacks for the part of Scotty. But they're a way from making a decision...he has joked that he might look a bit too young for the part and worries it might be one of the rare examples of someone in Hollywood being held back because they look too young."
