Developed by Activision and Taldren, 'Starfleet Command III' allows players to take command of their own starship like in the previous editions, only this time the game is set in the Next Generation universe. The game is expected to be released within the next week, and can already be ordered from online retailer Amazon.com for $44.99.

'Starfleet Command III's' storyline concerns the establishment of a joint Federation-Klingon starbase, which antagonises the Romulans, who try to destroy the new installation. Gamers can follow the plot to its conclusion by playing subsequent Klingon, Romulan, and Federation campaigns.

In this version of the game, players are able to customise their own ships, selecting their preferred ship class, weapons components, and even hand-pick their officers. Federation ship types include the Sovereign (Enterprise-E), Intrepid (Voyager), Akira and Galaxy (Enterprise-D) classes, while Vor'cha and Negh'var warships are some of the Klingon options.

The new Dynaverse 3 system allows gamers to play 'Starfleet Command III' over the Internet with other fans. In multi-player mode, gamers can band together in the same fleet, and the Borg are also available as a playable race.

To order 'Starfleet Command III' and support TrekToday, head over to Amazon.com. British residents can order the game from Amazon.co.uk, which will ship the title on November 22.

The original press release is available at Blue's News, while further information can be found at the game's official web site.
