New ships and familiar voices may be part of the new games Star Trek: Legacy and Star Trek: Tactical Assault, coming soon from Bethesda Softworks for Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

"Although we're being careful to make sure all of the key ships from Trek canon are included in 'Star Trek: Legacy,' we're fleshing out each race's fleet with some new designs," explained Ian Davis, the founder of Mad Doc Software and creative director for the game. He told StarTrek.com that Mad Doc has "a lot of experience with new Trek ship design."

Davis added that the company was working on adding the voices of actors for the games. " Like so many of you, we know how exciting this would be," he said. "We'll see how the details and schedules work out."

In Legacy, Davis described single player campaigns that span all of the Trek eras and skirmish campaigns - Tug-of-War and MP - that allow a player to choose a starting era and the rate of progress through the timeline. The development of the graphics took nearly four years, he added.

StarTrek.com also reproduced the Bethesda Softworks press release announcing that the games were expected to be released in September 2006. More information is available here.
