Fans will soon have a chance to see Star Trek items up close and personal and will even have a chance to sit in Captain Kirk's command chair from the original series.

As reported at Startrek.com, the Star Trek tour will begin in Long Beach, California on January 18. This will be the the first stop in a multi-city tour across the U.S. in the next few years. William Shatner will be making appearances at several of the cities on the tour. "Star Trek The Tour promises to be the largest, most interactive and entertaining Star Trek event ever presented to the public," he said. "This will truly be an impressive experience for the whole family and I am happy to be associated with it."

Highlights of the exhibit include Captain Picard's quarters, the Enterprise-D bridge, Dr. Crusher's Sickbay and Captain Kirk's command chair. That's in addition to motion-simulator rides, props and models and merchandise. The items on display are from all five television series and from the ten films.

There will be an opportunity to star alongside Star Trek heroes in an episode of one's choice and to be able to have a DVD made of the experience.
