The NAACP announced today that Star Trek guest stars Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) and Alfre Woodard (Lily Sloane) have been nominated for its annual NAACP Image Awards.

Golberg and Woodward received their nods in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for the films 'Kingdom Come' and 'K-PAX,' respectively, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The actresses are competing against Regina King, nominated for 'Down to Earth,' Vivica A. Fox, star of 'Two Can Play That Game' and 'Swordfish's' Halle Berry.

UPN's Monday night urban comedies 'The Hughleys' and 'Girlfriends' are up for Outstanding Comedy Series. Additionally, Jeri Ryan's (Seven of Nine) new show, 'Boston Public,' has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Drama Series.

Founded to honour people and projects who promoted "positive images of people of colour," the NAACP Image Awards are now in their 33rd year. The 41 categories cover film, television, music and literature.

The awards ceremony will be held on February 23, 2002, and will be broadcast by the Fox network on March 1.

Further information and the full list of nominations can be found in this Hollywood Reporter article.
