It's official: Star Trek: Voyager will be released on DVD in 2004.

Martin Blythe, vice-president of publicity for Paramount Home Entertainment, yesterday responded to rumours from the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) convention which suggested DVDs of Voyager and the original Star Trek series were in the works (story). "I'll only confirm that Voyager is coming next year," Blythe wrote at the Home Theatre Forum.

Sources have told TrekToday Voyager's first season will likely be released in Region 2 (Europe) in February, 2004, with subsequent seasons following every two months in a similar release pattern to the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine DVD sets.

The VSDA report, published at IGN DVD, said Paramount intended to release the original Star Trek series after all seven Voyager seasons had hit stores. According to TrekToday sources, original series episodes could be available as box sets in Europe as early as September, 2004.

Please note that this information has not yet been officially confirmed by Paramount Home Entertainment and only applies to European (Region 2) DVDs, not Region 1 (North America). Thanks to Bertrand for some of this!

Paramount Home Entertainment this week announced plans to release a special Captain Picard box set.

Currently scheduled for release in Region 2 (Europe) on September 15, the two-disc DVD set contains seven Next Generation episodes focusing on the Enterprise-D captain, according to a press release. The episodes included are "Allegiance", "Captain's Holiday", "Darmok", "The Inner Light", "Starship Mine", "Lessons" and "Bloodlines".

The DVD set also contains several bonus featurettes, but they are not exclusive to this package, having previously appeared in the Next Generation season box sets. The extras are 'Selected Crew Analysis' from the season three set, 'Mission Overview' from the year six package and season seven's 'A Captain's Tribute', in which Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard) recalls his time in the big chair.

Paramount's Captain Picard DVD set has a recommended retail price of £24.99 in the United Kingdom.
