Editor Marco Palmieri recently announced Pocket Books intends to celebrate Deep Space Nine's tenth anniversary in 2003 with a smorgasboard of literature devoted to the series.

Three DS9 books will be released in January next year, ten years after the show's premiere on January 3, 1993, Palmieri announced at Psi Phi.

The anthology 'The Lives of Dax' will be reprinted in mass-market paperback form under the banner of the DS9 relaunch series. Originally released as a trade paperback, the anthology contains ten short stories featuring each of Dax's nine hosts.

S.D. Perry will pen the next book, entitled 'Rising Son,' which is also part of the DS9 relaunch and tells the story of Jake Sisko. "This mass-market book is 'The Jake Novel,'" Palmieri said, "a story that runs parallel to everything that's occurred in the DS9 relaunch since 'Avatar,' and explains exactly what happened to him."

'Unity' is the title of the third novel, which will also be written by Perry. Palmieri wasn't at liberty to reveal full details of this work, but promised big things. "This is the celebratory DS9 tenth anniversary hardcover novel. This is a landmark story featuring a few things that a lot of people have been waiting for, plus some other things they may not be expecting."

Pocket Books plans to cap off the year with a DS9 anthology, containing stories by veteran Trek writers as well as newcomers. These short stories will take place during the show's seven-year run.

Set after DS9's seventh season, the relaunch began in May 2001 with 'Avatar' and continued in 'Abyss', 'Demons of Air and Darkness', and the upcoming 'Mission Gamma' series, to be published in September and October this year.

The original announcement can be found here at Psi Phi.
