The Television Critics Association has chosen former Star Trek: Voyager staffer Bryan Fuller's Wonderfalls as one of five shows to compete for Outstanding New Program honours and Showtime's The Lion In Winter starring Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) as a nominee for the Outstanding Movie, Miniseries or Special prize.

Zap2It reported on the nods for top honors at the 20th annual Television Critics Association Awards, which also celebrate individual performances and best dramatic, comedic and child-oriented writing among other categories.

Wonderfalls, which was cancelled by FOX after airing only a handful of episodes, is up against the favoured Arrested Development, also a FOX series, plus FOX's The O.C., HBO's Deadwood and CBS's Joan of Arcadia.

The Lion In Winter will compete for Outstanding Movie, Miniseries or Special with HBO's highly acclaimed AIDS drama Angels in America, PBS's Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness, BBC America's State of Play, and another Showtime production, Soldier's Girl.

Zap2It's complete report on the Television Critics Association Awards nominations is here.
