Kes Campaign 'From The Heart'

Sai Wong at the Kes Internet Support Society (K.I.S.S.) sends along word of the 'From The Heart' campaign, a fan drive to persuade the writers to bring back Jennifer Lien as Kes for several episodes of the seventh season.

Kes was written out of the series at the beginning of the fourth season, in the episode 'The Gift'. She transcended to a higher plane of existence, but returned briefly to 'Voyager' in the May sweeps episode 'Fury'. In that episode, Kes returned to seek revenge against Captain Janeway, acting a lot harsher than the Kes we knew from the first three seasons.

Despite this harshness, the 'From The Heart' campaign is focused on the warm, caring Kes of the first seasons. K.I.S.S. is urging fans who write letters to the producers in support of her return to also enclose heart-shaped cardboard/paper cutouts, to symbolise this warm nature. This was apparently inspired by two recent fan campaigns for WB shows in danger of cancellation: fans of the sci-fi series 'Roswell' sent in bottles of Tabasco sauce to the network, whilst 'Felicity' fans sent in locks of their own hair. As both shows have been renewed for next season, K.I.S.S. is hoping the same thing could happen for Kes.

K.I.S.S. is urging all fans to write to Paramount, requesting that Jennifer Lien be reinstated on the show. If you do send in letters, the organisers ask that you write positive and constructive letters, as writing angry letters will likely not encourage the writers. In addition, if you are going to include some 'heart' shapes, they also ask that you mention the 'From The Heart' campaign and what the hearts are there to symbolise. Here's the address you need to write to:

Kenneth Biller
c/o Star Trek Voyager
Paramount Pictures
5555 Melrose Avenue
Los Angeles
CA 90038
United States of America

More on K.I.S.S. can be found at their site, where they also have a special page dedicated to the campaign.
