The "future birthplace" of Star Trek's Montgomery Scott is vying for the European premiere of the new 'Star Trek' movie.

As reported at the Edinburgh Evening News, the West Lothian town of Linlithgow has launched a campaign to host the European premiere of Star Trek XI. Linlithgow boasts a Star Trek exhibition, the only one in Scotland. But there is a small problem with the choice of Linlithgow for the premiere of Star Trek XI. The town has no cinema.

The campaign has the backing of the West Lothian Council. Provost Tom Kerr is confident that any problems, including the lack of a cinema in which to show the movie, could be overcome. "West Lothian would be honoured to host the first screening of the new Star Trek movie," he said.

The campaign to have Linlithgow to host the premiere came from Vulcan (Alberta, Canada), another town which associates itself with Star Trek. Vulcan hopes to host the world premiere of the film later this year.
