Gene "Rod" Roddenberry Jr. sent a special video and goodies for fans of the cancelled Starbase Indy convention.

As reported by the Martinsville Reporter-Times, when Florida-based Vulkon cancelled the Thanksgiving weekend Starbase Indy convention, some fans were out-of-luck due to non-refundable airline tickets. They decided to hold their own convention, and word of it got back to Rod Roddenberry who decided to do something for them.

Roddenberry.com columnist Dennis Rayburn saw an article regarding the cancellation and showed it to Roddenberry. Roddenberry prepared an eighteen-minute video the day after Thanksgiving for the convention that included a tour of his late father's Los Angeles home office with the various mementoes and awards that Roddenberry Sr. received over the years. "Congratulations," said Roddenberry Jr. "You came together to put on this convention. You guys did an amazing thing after a lot of you felt stranded and abandoned. These events when off the cuff and loosely organized are special to people."

Roddenberry Jr. also donated a "Great Bird of the Galaxy" painting to be auctioned off at the event, which sold for four hundred dollars. He also sent "goodie bags" for the almost two hundred in attendance. The bags contained a button, lapel pin and a patch.
