The crew of the Enterprise NX-01 will reportedly draw closer to discovering the relationship between Vulcans and Romulans in season four's thirteenth episode.

Currently entitled "United", the episode is set to continue the storyline begun in "Babel One", in which Enterprise is assigned to transport Tellarite and Andorian delegations to a peace conference. When the Andorians claim one of their ships was destroyed by the Tellarites, on-board tensions start to escalate (story).

However, the real culprit in the attacks appears to be the Romulans, though their identity is unknown to the crew of the Enterprise. The Romulan ship is equipped with technology which allows it to attack without being discovered — but the vessel is damaged during the altercation. The high-ranking Senator Vrax, together with his official escort of Reman guards, is sent out to the ship to investigate the situation.

The Romulan captain, Valdore, explains the critical nature of the situation to Vrax. He is concerned that Enterprise may discover that the Romulans and Vulcans are related. This will tie in with the Vulcan Reformation Arc, set to begin November 19 with "The Forge", in which the Vulcans recover Surak's writings, which could contain information about their link with the Romulans.

Senator Vrax isn't trying to prevent the Vulcans discovering the true nature of their relationship — far from it, he is committed to the reunification of the two species. But he feels that premature discovery of the fact by Enterprise could destabilise the Romulans' plans for reuniting with the Vulcans on their own terms. And the Romulans will do anything to make sure their secret does not come out...

Please note that these plot details have not yet been confirmed by Paramount Pictures, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour from an unofficial source. This report is based on an early draft of the script and aspects of the episode may change before it goes to air.

"United" will likely air in early 2005.
