Deep Space Nine actor Jeffrey Combs (Weyoun) is set to appear in the fifth episode of Enterprise 'The Andorian Incident'. In a new interview, Combs revealed he was at first hesitant about taking the part.
"I said 'no' because I thought I didn't want to particularly just go in and guest star, just one thing and then out," Combs told Nicole Rebsher of the German Jeffrey Combs Fan Club. "But at that point I hadn't seen the script, I hadn't thought about it enough, I didn't had enough information and I guess my initial reaction also was I kind of done this Star Trek thing. So I thought, well, I don't need to do that. That sort of may be me repeating myself. And so I said 'no.'"
But the producers were not to be easily dissuaded. "They came back and said 'Please, and here is why: A, B, C, D...'" said Combs. "Then I read the script and found out that it is an Andorian and that made me change my mind because I remember the Andorians from the first series and they were sort of unexplored. They where like the Vorta, they were coming to me and said to me 'Jeffrey, can you flesh this out for us.' I took it as a challenge."
Getting into Andorian make-up proved a challenge for the actor, who is used to wearing rubber to assume the roles of Vorta and Ferengi. "[...] It was more demanding," he said. "I'm used to the constrictions of the make-up, but this one had hair, wig, make-up, prosthetics, but there were also mechanics involved to move the antenna. So I had to be hocked up to a radio operated control and I had that going on as well. I could hear them moving - 'zoooom - zooooooom.' So that affected your concentration, but not that much."
The actor was able to reveal a little about the character he plays. "His name is Shra'an, you could call him a terrorist," he said. "We believe that the Vulcans have been spying on us, so we have something to do about this. And I leave it to you to find out whether or not we are right or not."
Viewers were given warning that all may not be as it first appears on screen. "I can't give away too much," said Combs. "You may think I'm a bad guy, but I'm justified."
