Trekkies 2 will receive its world premiere later this month at the Newport Beach Film Festival.

The film, a sequel to the 1997 documentary Trekkies, will be shown at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, in the Lido Theatre. For the follow-up, director Roger Nygard and host Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar) visited eight countries, including Germany, Australia, and Brazil, to profile the world-wide nature of Star Trek fandom.

Trekkies 2 will include a look at the filming of the German fan film Star Trek: The Legacy, a peek inside Tony Alleyne's apartment which he transformed into a replica of the Enterprise-D, and a visit to the first-ever Star Trek convention to be held in Serbia. Many of Trek's biggest names were interviewed for the documentary, including Enterprise writers Brannon Braga and David A. Goodman and actors Nana Visitor (Kira Nerys) and Connor Trinneer ('Trip' Tucker), to name just a few.

After the screening, the Trekkies 2 production team will be appearing at an after-party at the Hard Rock Cafe for all attendees. Music will be provided by Warp 11, a Star Trek-themed rock band whose songs include "Red Alert" and "Everything I Do, I Do with William Shatner".

Tickets are available for purchase from the Newport Beach Film Festival web site. The $15 purchase price includes entry to the Trekkies 2 screening and the after-party/Warp 11 concert. The concert is restricted to attendees over the age of 21.

Following its world premiere, the documentary will hit the festival circuit, visiting the USA Film Festival on April 24 and the LA Film Fest in late June.

For further information on Trekkies 2, head over to the documentary's official web site.
